Getting colder

The autumn has arrived. He came rather discreetly, hiding in the warm evenings full of sunlight and crouching on the quietly fallen leaves without making a sound. But now he is here indeed, and in his full glory. He loves the rain and the wind and the crispy mornings make him intensely happy. So, let's enjoy his season and take our umbrellas, gloves and hats with us when heading out the door to say hello!

Points!

This is what I've been working on today. Doing it all one point at a time, so it's very time consuming! But now I decided that it is finished.
The picture was inspired by Hedi Slimane's beautiful photo of Frances Cobain. I say "inspired" because I didn't really succeed in capturing Frances' stunning features with my technique.
So, this is a nice proof of how in school you end up doing stuff you wouldn't normally do! I definitely want to try this technique again.

Quick peek

So, school started. And apparently I've been very busy with it, at least I haven't been posting much! But I'm still here!

It's my last week at work and my new school starts next week! Finally!

Dazed

I've been on real vacation for almost a week now, and boy does it feel good to do what ever you want all day long.

Dilemma

I found out that I also got accepted into an other artsy school that I applied to. That is of course great news, but now I should actually choose between those schools and I'm having a hard time doing that. They both have their good and bad sides, so they end up being pretty even on my silver scale. But I guess I'm trusting my instinct on this one, and I'm going to pick the first school where I got in. Hopefully I'm making the right choice!

Participating

Last Friday night I had a blast celebrating my friend’s birthday with pinch of good nostalgia to flavor it up. I couldn’t party all night though, because I had promised to help out in house renovations. So the next morning, despite the crazy heat I tied my hair up and started pulling out some old wall papers. Who knew that it could be so much fun?

Indoors

A surprise summer flu caught up with me, and suddenly I found myself watching discovery channel at noon indoors, when a hot and beautiful day is floating around just behind my window. Doesn't that seem unfair, right? Well, this will pass and I will be better than ever soon, hopefully!

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Moderate heat wave

I've been treated with the best possible summer weather, warm (if it's too hot, I get cranky) and sunny (clouds don't bother that much, as long as it's not cold).  Even our Midsummer's eve was beautiful, it wasn't rainy and cold as the evil weather forecasters wanted to make us believe to screw our plans completely. Well, I had a great plan B party at the beach with lots of friends and friends of friends, so it turned out quite nice!

Wonderful Alice

Ok I admid it, this happened already a week ago, but here we are writing about it now.. So, I went to see Crystal Castles for the first time! I guess the golden days of my listening to them was three years ago but, now I finally got a chance to see them live. I've been missing their gigs for whatever reasons before, but let's not get into that right now, it's not really important now is it.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the concert, even though I prefer artists that actually communicate with the audience even if I wasn't really expecting that they would. But they sure had a lot of energy, especially Alice here, and the crowd was dancing, jumping and screaming in a communal ecstasy. The atmosphere was really spectacular and most of all, sweaty!
And running into friends and having a drink afterwards while talking about funny paranormal stuff didn't hurt and made the night even more special.

Kittens and rainbows

After yesterdays drama drama drama, this is a perfectly quiet but great Friday. Let's keep it that way!

Ay ay

I got some wonderful news today. All the stress and hard work actually paid off and I got accepted into one of the art schools that I applied for few months ago. What a relief!

Monday stare

Surprise, surprise, the weekend flew away kind of fast again. This time the flesh on my weekend’s spine was made of dj gigs, family dinners and movies. And the blood that made the muscles move was heat, enthusiasm and laughter.
Luckily this is a good Monday, because I’m going to see one of my favorite bands tonight! And maybe getting a new phone finally too.

Day of tears

As everyone who live in the real world knows, all good things must come to an end. And today was surely one of those days when I had to put my feet back on the ground and realize that too. If a week a go the airport was my best friend, today it sure was my worst enemy.
So, tears were shed and noses were running. I guess goodbyes are always hard.

Surprised

I had a huge surprise waiting for me at the airport and after that it has been all party and celebration for over a week now! It's been about making flower halos, playing jenga, taking boat rides to have picnics on an island, shopping at flea markets, cute little babies, weird jewelry, baking cakes, cutting hair, sunshine, eating out, going for long walks and take some many pictures that you can't even count, spaniels, pink lips, lemon water, running in circles just for the fun of it, spotting yellow cars, posing, sand tornados, hiccups, finding out the difference between chantilly and whipped cream, crazy dancing, mime games, nail polish, unwanted tanning, grammar mistakes, random napping and giggling. So, fun.

Sushi!

I had to try my new marker that I bought and what could be better than to illustrate my delicious dinner that I had last night!
Problem is, that right now I can only dream of eating solid food, because I got my wisdom tooth taken out today and I can only enjoy some stuff that I don't have to chew. Obviously I'm craving for everything else but that.. Also, I look like a chipmunk ready for the winter, only my cheeks are full of blood not nuts! (mmm I would like to eat some nuts..) So I would call this a Friday well done!

Wishing good luck

Kate here wanted to wish good luck to everyone who is going to need it today!

The scent of flowers

Saw this beautiful picture on Vanessa Jackman’s blog; she is such an inspiring photographer!
And after my peacefully cute weekend, this illustration expresses my feelings perfectly.
I saw the most charming gig on Friday, I had a picnic with friends in a windy park on Saturday and I went jogging around this bay near my place yesterday. There were these pretty Bird Cherry trees that had just started to blossom, so the sweet and delightful fragrance was everywhere. I tried to breathe in very deep so that the perfume would stay in my nose forever! I didn’t succeed in that though, but it was worth a try. Overall I had a great weekend! Refreshed and ready for the new week.

Lions

So proud of our new gold medalists! The weekend was full of partying, and while I'm just finally recovering from all that I realized that the next weekend is already here the day after tomorrow..! Hopefully it will be a little bit more peaceful though.

Sunshine

Sun has made a comeback into my life, and this is a tribute for that!  (Do I ever talk about anything else except the Sun? But wait, why should I, it’s so wonderfuuul)
So, I saw these very cute and sunny pictures on Jak&Jil blog, and basically fell in love. And I was having a picnic lunch yesterday on the soft grass bathing in beautiful fresh spring sunlight and I can only hope I looked as buoyant and effortless as this girl. Probably not though, because I didn’t have my sunglasses on and I was squinting like a maniac. So I guess I looked more like a little mole, or a really happy kitten. Purrr.

Muse

Aren't girls with strong eyebrows amazing? My brows being basically invisible because of their blond color, I have total eyebrow envy for those who have dark and thick ones, like Miss Muse here. So beautiful.

Trying to stay zen

I'm watching the Hockey World Championship games, and just trying to stay calm. Even though I'm not a crazy fan, but whenever I see my team on the ice I get super nervous! I have to keep myself a little distracted from the game, so I don't start to pull my hair and to chew my nails.

The disaster

As you can guess, my darling Macbook got a little damaged a week ago. And all I wanted to do was to brag about the cake that I had made!
If only I had know about the crush the cake had on my computer, because the cake wanted to make wet kisses to my keyboard immediately when it got a little closer. It was a very short love story though, they got separated instantly after their first smooch and I'm not planning on getting them get back together ever again!
So I just got my baby back from the Apple kindergarden today, so things will get back to normal finally.

Mentioned

I've been a little absent lately and in the meantime cool things happened!
My drawing of Erin Fetherston's fall collection that I did few months ago was featured in her blog at her website! I must say that I was definitely stunned when I saw it, but in a good way of course. I'm so happy they liked it. So yay for Erin Fetherston!

Put your hands up in the air!

I can finally take a deep breath and exhale all the stress out, because I just finished applying to some art schools. I had to do so many drawings, that it feels strange to have a free night! Strange but definitely good! Ahhhh and yay!

Pros and cons

Every now and then a girl finds herself in front of a big question. And I found myself facing it about a month back. I dared to ask myself; should I cut my hair?
I've had this dream of my hair going all the way down to my waist, and I've been growing it for few years now. And now, with only few inches left to reach the goal, I'm having an urge to cut it. I want an edgy hair!
Aah, but long hair, you might think, is so pretty and versatile and you look so nice and girly all the time. But the fact is it’s really boring. It just hangs there. Not to mention, that it’s getting a little too high maintenance. First of all, it gets stuck everywhere. I mean it, e v e r y w h e r e. Zippers, door knobs, other peoples arms, you name it, my hair is under it. Oh, and the wintertime mayhem! You have to wear all the scarves, and hats and sweaters, and jackets and hoods so my hair gets tangled in between and around, and I either have to tie it up or brush it for an hour after. And don't even get me started on the static hair part... And then there is also hair all around. Plus they are so long, that even if there is only one hair on the floor, it goes all the way from the bedroom to the kitchen (almost! I swear!) so it looks that there are dozens everywhere, and that I haven't vacuumed in months.
Ok, I think we are done with the cons. And the pros? Well, it does look pretty. And I do feel girly. And I can wear it on a ponytail, or a chignon, or braid it, or French braid it! So it sort of is versatile. Also, it’s kind of handy if you have to hide something on the front of you outfit, say like a bra strap, or spaghetti stain or un ugly detail of you shirt. Plus I really do loooove it.
So as you can see, this time the question is really giving me a hard time.

New!

Almost all new! New header for the blog and an illustration of my new shoes as well. Enjoy!

Wind in the hair

As the weekend flew by at the speed of a fleeing bankrobber (and doesn't it feel sometimes that there actually is someone who literally steals all your time? Timerobber maybe?) I did in fact recover quite nicely from my cold. So now I'm feeling almost as good as new (and considering how much and loud those brand new humans actually complain about their malaise maybe I feel even better than when I was all shiny and new..) and ready to get back on the train of reality. Which means that I have to say bye bye to watching movies in bed all day and grab a handful of courage from the top shelf tomorrow when I drag my quickly spoiled spirit to work.

Under the covers

I guess I have been working too much lately, because now my body said, stoooop, and caught a flu. I believe my white blood cells lost a vicious bar fight or something to some evil bacteria and showed them the way to my place.  So now I'm just letting all kind of creepy mean germs take advantage of me and organize their deliciously wild after-party inside of me, which means that while they are having fun I'm lying in bed. So yay. I'm just hoping they would be on their way out soon, and don't leave the place completely messy and destroyed.
So any good tricks to get rid of the uninvited guests in my body?

Bright for spring

The last two weeks I've spent quietly living behind my computer screen at work, and now that is finally changing. I'm getting a free weekend this week! Hooray! Also, spring is really making it's way even to my corner of the world, so double hooray! Sunshine and free time, the best combination in the universe!

NYFW Erin Fetherston

I saw the Erin Fetherston collection for next fall, and I have to say that it got me thinking of fairies and deities. Everything was so pure and flowy and light and angelic. And all the pictures of the collection were so dreamlike and hazy, that went well with that image of mine.

Suit up

This suit symbolises the fact that I was working waaay too much during the last 12 days. And I'm finally having my day off, and celebrating so badly! The suit is going to the corner (not that I even wear anything that proper to work, but as I said, it's a symbol!) and glitter, sequins and bright colors are going to step out from their dusty drawer to the platform with a big smile on their face. It's about time!

Tilda

I have to confess that I love watching award shows and I've been a fan since I was little. My ultimate favorite of all statue giving parties are the Academy Awards. When I was a kid, the best part was the beginning of the show, the funny jokes and songs. I used to skip the then so boring red carpet part, but now if I miss it it's a total disaster! I have to see what everyone is wearing!
Tilda here has one of the most interesting and unique styles of all posing maniacs on the red carpet, so I'm eager to see what and who she will be wearing to the next Oscar's. Especially since she wore that divinely simple but beautiful Jil Sander dress at the Golden Globes. It was so her style! The question is, can she even do any better for the Oscar's? Any guesses what she'll be wearing?

Bedtime stories

Quick good night sketch. I decided not to watch the scary movie that was on tv tonight, because I would've looked like that all the time (and probably rest of the week too). Ok well, a lot more more scared and much less excited. I'm not a fan of horror stuff, even though I tried to so hard to be when I was younger. Once when I came from the living room my face all white, eyes big as plates and smothered shriek in my throat, my mom told me that, actually you don't have to look at those movies. At that time I didn't listen to her (and have life long traumas now.. Always always listen to your mothers!) but now I'm finally accepting the fact. There is nothing wrong with being a little afraid!

ChloƩ girl

I saw the ChloĆ© ad campaign pictures on this blog, and obviusly fell in love with the collection, as well as the beautiful pictures. And also got inspired last night (while recovering from a badly scheduled nap) to do an interpretation from it. So, sometimes not being able to sleep is not that bad after all.

Spring, are you coming soon?

I have to say, that I got maybe a little too excited about yesterdays hint of sun. I can't wait it to be spring already! Or, dare I say it, summer! To be able to wear high heels (not to mention sandals! In bright colours!) without the fear of secret ice lurking behind the corner, or to be able to just go outside without spending ten minutes in my little vestibule putting on my hard core winter gear, woolly socks, hats, snow shoes, scarves, baby polar bears, mittens, flare guns and to stop carrying a hot water bottle around like a purse.
Oh, I hope those days are soon here!

Jumpy

Jumping around in my new jumpsuit. I didn't know they are so comfortable! And mine is warm too, so I don't mind that the temperature dropped big time again. But at least the sun is shining a little bit, hi there! Haven't seen you in a long time, how have you been? Oh you've been at the south? That seems nice, but I sure am glad that you are back now, please stay here as well!

Beauty on the fingertips

VoilĆ , my favorite nail polishes and perfume.
I like to use long lasting polishes on my little scratchers because I really don't enjoy doing my nails every day or so (I'm too impatient [or lazy] to do that; you can do basically nothing during the following half an hour! Just sit still with your hands in the air, or worst of all blow on them; it always makes me feel so silly). That's why I prefer the ones that don't fly away after the first time I do the dishes (not that I ever actually have to do the dishes, my boyfriend is the master of dish washing at our house, [lucky me] but you know what I mean) or put on some super difficult shoes.

Hibernation

Quick outfit post from Sunday, that I happily and eagerly spent at the office. Feeling kind of drained right now, and can't wait for next weekend. Ugh, I wish I could crawl into a pile of leaves and hibernate like a little hedgehog and stay there until the gentle spring sun would wake me up.. A girl can dream right?

No color, no goddess

I really wanted to do this outfit post in color, but something went wrong in the processing, and I was left with only this picture. Sadly the color was in fact that special thing which made this outfit interesting, because I was wearing turquoise and tomato-red together. That sure spiced up my winter frenzy of muted dark tones!
I would normally celebrate in my mind right now, because it is Friday, the best day of the week (I bet Fridays were in deed the days when all those Greek gods ate juicy grapes and had tons of delicious red wine while dancing and kissing around in their feather light white dresses that never get dirty) but I can't, because I will be working the whole weekend too. So no tranquil flower field fete for me tonight! Dreadful!

The basic of basics

Yes, yes, I get it, less is more in your wardrobe. But why do I feel (and I'm not the only one!) that there is definitely not much in my closet (as in, I don't need a separate room for my garments), but it hasn't miraculously turned into "more" yet. So my drawers are full, but I don't have anything to wear. To ease this pain, I've made an ultimate shopping list for myself containing only the quality basics that wont ever go out of fashion. With this list I will stand against the cruel temptation of sales and the evil luring clothes that are not just seemingly cheaper than usually (which can be an unresistable allurement on itself) but whispering my name under the piles of viscose, lace and cotton. And when I can't tell which one is the whispering piece, I have to buy them all and find out at home. And this is how I end up having tons of almost unwearable clothes, and not a single classic among them. Go me.
So as a number one on my new life changing list, is a simple white dress shirt with men's cut. Wow, what a surprise!

I thought Monday was a swear word

It seems to be Monday again. My oldest nemesis, we seem to be running into each other like all the time. It's just not funny anymore! Isn't there a cure for this madness?
And as you can see, my face is in its basic Monday mode, blunt. It could be mistaken for its close and friendly neighbor ethereal, but it sure is not that! So do not be fooled children.
Now, I'm just going to wish that this will be an amazingly fabulous week (and it will be, wont it?), and get another cup of green tea. You see, my mean weekly enemy, I am totally coping with you.

All about the hats

Hats, hats and hats. I'm more than delighted that they seem to be cool to wear again, yippee! Hands in the air! Whip it real good!
When I was little I used to wear all kinds of weird hats, caps, beanies, barrettes etc. Well I guess the nineties style had something to do with it, not to mentions the freezy, breezy, windyful winters. Even the lady next door said that she is always looking forward to seeing me just to get to witness my newest headwrap.
And now, after several years of wearing basically only supersize beanies, I have found real hats again, and I can tell you, our love is blossoming more than ever! I bought the one in the picture about a month ago, and seriously, I've taken it off only while showering. It totally is my prince in a matt brim (which totally is like and armor!). That brim protects my little eyes from snow, water (or when those two despicable things put their powers together and create the most evil irritator of all mankind; the slush) and all kind of weird things that are flying in the air out there. Depending on the time of the day, may they be navigating commuters, angry lunchboxes, stray cats in heat or just plain wet leaves. Anyway that thing is essential! Not to mention, how it cures all kind of dreadful-hair-weeks like magic (well, at least as long as you keep it on. If you are already suffering from mayhem in your hair, I suggest you do not take it off in any circumstance! That's an order!)
So, have I convinced you already that these things are the best weapon to fight the plain outfits of winter? Have I?

Friday, January 7, 2011

First outfit!

So there you go, my first outfit post! I was wearing a plain white chemise, with my mother's old gray knit and this cute turquoise belt I just bought from a vintage store last week. Aren't mother's closets the best? They are like a free vintage stores, and the best thing, you can just return the clothes when you are sick of them, brilliant huh?
So what do you think? I know, I know the picture isn't the best, you can't really tell the colors that well, but let's not be judgemental! That is the sugar on our already existing cavity, so let's stay away from the chocolate, at least for just this post, yeah?

The meeting

Hi there everyone! This is me, how lovely to meet you! And let me introduce you straight away to my brand new blog, welcome!
I must admit that I have been longing for a blog of my own for some time now, and as a new years resolution type of thing, here it is! So I'm exited about this, and about sharing a little bit of myself with you, the mighty internet.
Well, here you go, just a teeny weeny introduction post, and well get on with the outfits later.
